Item description

Morning everyone.

I switched on my television set this past few mornings to watch the news, go to Channel 403 to watch ENCA news and learnt about a fire that destroyed the lives of families in Valhalla Park on the Cape Flats. The fire started on Monday, 24th of December and these residents lost everything in the blaze.

They now trying to pick up the pieces, trying to rebuild their lives, however it will take years as some of them still waiting for building material from the City of Cape Town.

We would like ask Cape Town to help these people by donating blankets, food or any old clothes, furniture and taking to the families directly. You can even make a donation to the below bank account details and all the proceeds will be used to buy essentials like clothing, blanket, food ect. We will make up hampers adn give it to affected families.

What makes it more sad is the fact that they had to spent Christmas in church halls, relying on hand outs or a small food parcels from samaritians.

When you have lost everything, you need everything, so nothing is too big or too small but we do encourage you to be practical.

Here are some of our suggestions:

- Toiletries: Soap, toothpaste, hair brushes, toothbrushes , sanitary towels, diapers

- Clothing: Although we are in the heat of summer, many of the victims will need warm clothing as they are without proper shelter. Warm clothing will also help lessen the need for fires, etc. to warm themselves up. Summer clothes are also welcome. Think of what is in your cupboard; these victims have none of this. New, clean underwear would also be greatly appreciated. If you are able to donate school clothes for children, please do so. Shoes are also a need.

- Food: Please donate non-perishable food. Canned food is needed as are basic kitchen utensils. Of course, we encourage you to think practically. Think of the immediate need to eat and feed families.

- Toys, reading material, school supplies: Many of these families would have lost many if not all of their children's belongings. Think of what your child needs. These children would need exactly the same.
Please pack all donations into boxes as this will make the process far easier for those transporting goods.
