Item description

Imagine an era of the Rhodesian army, the G-car Aleutte helicopters hovering over head, the Hunter-Harrier jet fighters strafing their target. See military fatigues of the Caucasian soldiers running with corked FN 25-mm rifles fighting an elusive rag tag band of communist trained guerrillas good at hit and run tactics who belly crawl away from contacts, Selous Scouts, Special Branch (intelligence) and British South Africa Police poking their noses at the African. Imagine a 3-tier racial system that affected employment, on the job training, primary and high schooling, vocation training and residential areas. Look at a racial era where the Caucasian was king, the mixed race and Asian descents were the butlers and the African was a slave/refugee in his own backyard. Imagine 6 siblings growing up in a 1950s era house with a lounge, kitchen and bedroom. No inside toilet, shower or tub, these were luxuries. Imagine them crammed in there but excelling in sports in a residential area lacking facilities. Look at a senior school system which comprised almost half of F2 schools that taught the African to be a ‘spanner boy’ to the Caucasian and the women to be tailoreses and dressmakers instead of nurses and teachers. Imagine the Rhodesian bush war and its effects on their social and physical life. Imagine the days of racial discrimination. Success reaches the door of African boys growing up using stamina, legs that can run and hearts that keep pumping blood and a diet deficient of basics. One becomes a long distance runner. Another becomes a sprinter and yet another becomes a boxer. Dancing queens also come knocking on the door. So do rising, gulping and lowering calabashes of opaque beer. Peer pressure and peers who think otherwise come too. What about sexually transmittable diseases in an era where HIV/AIDS is thought of as mere talk. When bareness comes in an African marriage, the woman is to blame. To what extent will this be true? Title: - For All Have Sinned. Author: - Temba Magorimbo. Publisher: - Wingspan Press.
